Kabir played by Sanjay Dutt is a con man (fraud) who fools these four friends and runs away with money and now lives a lavish life. Now in order to take revenge and get their money back, friends reach Kabir again in Macau. And then starts a long chase of fooling each other. Characters of Indra Kumar’s Double Dhamaal resemble to those old world cartoons who chase each other, slap each other, make faces, and mimic film stars but still fail to make the audience laugh (where they are unlike the cartoons).
In DD there are indeed a couple of funny scenes but they are far too less and far in between. Even though unlike usual comedy films, DD did have a story still the script’s loose ends left audience with a tasteless film. Second half of the film is excruciatingly boring, but the golf scene, mimicry scenes, etc came as a relief for audience. Films like Peepli Live, Taare Zameen Par, Guzaarish, My Name Is Khan, etc were mocked in abundance which makes you laugh, still the movie loses grip towards climax.
Mallika Sherawat’s forte lies in a very specific genre, which is why she was kept sidelined all throughout the movie barring the Jalebi Bai and other item numbers. Makers of Double Dhamaal completely wasted the talent of Arshad Warsi and Sanjay Dutt. Kangana Ranaut has a very superficial role; however her dialogue delivery (English speaking) has tremendously improved in comparison with her last film.
Aashish Chaudhary in girl’s make up was seriously horrible, first time he/she/that appeared on screen, I puked. In the end Double Dhamaal is a completely mindless, non-sense comedy, which is a sequel to a 2007 film, Dhamaal. And if the first one was Dhamaal, then this one was not an iota more than half Dhamaal, we at
FilmiTadka give it 2 out of 5 stars.
