Agneepath (Movie Review) has done what was expected of it for so long. It has joined the Rs. 100 Crore club after 11th day of its release. The film is the ninth one to touch the mark within few days of its release. However, it did trail back in the matter of days from Salman Khan’s Bodyguard. Salman’s film went past the 1 bn mark within seven days of its release, making a record yet to be broken by anyone.
A trade expert told a daily that Agneepath did well mainly because of the production house associated with and the stars in it. All big names culminated in big earnings at the box-office. But he did add that the content was also compelling enough. Another reason he points out is the number of prints that were released. According to him, about 2000 to 3000 prints were released which brought home such huge numbers. It is also said that Agneepath’s success is also attributed to its timing. It released on Republic Day’s long weekend and that too as a solo release. Hence, such a turnout was pretty expected. Other movies which have touched the billion mark, barring Ready, were released on national holidays too like Bodyguard On Eid, Ra.One on Diwali and Don 2 on Christmas.
Trade experts also argue that the high pricing of tickets and a resounding response from the small centres have also added to Agneepath’s success. They assert that no film can go past the billion mark without the help of small centres that constitute the major film viewing zone for such a pot-boiler movie.
Just for your information the billion club was initiated by Aamir Khan’s Ghajini which was later accompanied by 3 Idiots, Dabangg, Golmaal 3, Ready, Bodyguard, Ra.One, Singham and Don 2. Guess it’s time to say, Welcome to the Rs. 100 Crore club, Agneepath!
