Akshay Kumar goes to schools with a cause

Tuesday, 06 March 2012 16:19 Shouvik Roy
Akshay Kumar has taken up a cause and his hammering to various schools to support his cause. No, he isn’t asking the schools to give free and compulsory education to every child up to the age of 14 as per our constitution. In fact, Akshay is approaching schools to ingest martial arts lessons in the curriculum.

Buzz is that Akshay is so hell bent about this cause that he has vowed that until and unless every student has access to martial arts training in school or at private classes, he won’t rest. Last year, Akki was busy having discussions on the same with governments of various states of India to conduct classes of Karate, Judo, Kung Fu and other fighting forms in schools and colleges. In fact, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Singh Modi is so convinced with Akshay’s drive that he agreed to make martial arts a mandatory subject in schools.

Akshay, however, believes it will be a long road before they reach the destination. He hopes that the move will see results next year with schools in Gujarat and a few in Mumbai taking up martial arts as their subject. His son Aarav is already getting trained in the fighting form and is doing great. Akshay wants his son to be fit and healthy enough to defend himself in times of trouble without depending on anyone. The actor is also gearing up for second Akshay Kumar Karate Championship which will be held in October. Given its popularity and reach, Akki wants to have knee-high fighters from various countries this time around. He is also looking to extend the duration of the event and incorporate more fighting styles to have more people participating in it.
