Akshay Kumar has been playing it safe by doing comedy films for a few years now. The reason the actor gave for the same was that he wanted to stay alive to see his son grow up. Hence, he didn't take up action movies post Aarav turned 2 years old. Now, he has gone back to his favourite genre of action. But ask him about doing thought-provoking and parallel cinema and Akshay points out that they are not commercially viable.
Akshay told reporters that when a producer puts his money into a film, he wishes to see it make profits at the Box Office. Very rarely will one find a film rich in content registering great profits. He states that no one came to watch Tasveer 8X10 even though he loved the film. Sangharsh is his favourite yet it didn't fare well. Ironically, today there are films which don't make an iota of sense but collects Rs. 100 Crores. Akshay asserts that as a producer, they have to follow certain rules to make profit. He would love to do an offbeat film but it should have a commercial prospect.
What you think is the reason behind such trend Akshay? We ask. The actor said matter-of-factly that these days, getting a script which is content driven and has the potential of becoming a money spinner is difficult. Kahaani was one of them which he really liked. It is a film which made people watch it even on Monday. Everything depends on the script and the people who write it. They are the essential part of the industry but sadly, never get acknowledged well. Well, if that's the reason Akshay, why don't you do something about it? After all, you are a big star in the industry who can make or break trends. Why not take an initiative and get good scriptwriters for your films? What say?
