Last Friday saw two releases, Blood Money (Review) and Bumboo (Review). One suffered of poor promotions and unflattering reviews while the other never expected to make any difference. Resultant? Two more loss added to Bollywood’s balance sheet this year. However, if you compare the two, Blood Money managed to stay afloat on its opening weekend while Bumboo just couldn’t survive.
As far as collections are concerned, Blood Money opened with a 20-25% occupancy which falls under the dismal category. While Friday was slow, Saturday and Sunday saw a very disappointing turnout for the film. At the end of its first weekend, Blood Money made nearly Rs. 5.50 - 7.50 Crores. If it is any consolation, the figure, according to trade experts, is better than what Ek Deewana Tha and ‘London New York Paris’ registered in its first weekend.
In addition, there are very slight hopes that Blood Money will be able to pick up anyway as Housefull 2 releases next week which is expected to fare well. Trade analysts opine that a Rs. 10 Crore gross will be a respectable collection for Blood Money given the fact that it was wrongly timed between two biggies, Agent Vinod and Housefull 2.
Coming to Bumboo, less is said the better. It was completely dismissed by the audience as there are places where it recorded 0% occupancy. Agent Vinod dropped few more notches down than last week and is enroute to a flop show. Now all eyes are on Housefull 2 as the Box Office is eager to see its cash registers ringing violently. But do the dirty dozen have it in them to change industry’s fortune? We will know soon!
