Singham became the second highest grosser of 2011 which also entered the Rs. 100 Crore club. Ajay Devgan’s cop act, his Marathi catch phrases and Prakash Raj as Jaykant Shikre worked wonders. Undoubtedly, people wanted to see a sequel to it. So, fulfilling everyone’s wishes, Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgan are working on the sequel to this blockbuster movie.
But both Shetty and Devgan are not giving out the release date of the follow up. Ajay says that Singham 2 was always on the cards. But they are in no hurry to give a date. Right now they want to soak in the glory of Bol Bachchan’s success. Also, they have other projects to finish before Singham 2 starts rolling.
Rohit also revealed one of the reasons behind the sequel apart from its success. He said that Singham earned Ajay and him a lot of respect from the cops and the public. Talking about its popularity, Shetty added that the film is getting aired on channels since August 2011. Also, it recorded the highest TRP on the day of its television premiere. However, Rohit reprimanded people from thinking that they are making the sequel because the original was a hit. They aren’t doing this to feel pompous about their achievement. They discovered a good script for the film and hence, going ahead with Singham 2. But while Singham was a remake, the follow up will be a fresh story. It will take another five months to materialize.
